Trachemys venusta

Habitat: Its habitat is varied, including lagoons, swamps, artificial wells, flooded areas of rivers and areas covered by aquatic vegetation, being a common species in mangrove areas.


Food: ; The diet of the juveniles is mainly carnivorous (carrion, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, worms and amphibians) and they occasionally consume foods of vegetable origin (aquatic plants), with the years becoming more herbivorous.


Habits: It is a kind of diurnal and nocturnal habits. During the dry season it buries itself and survives on its reserves until the rains come.


It is interesting that… When the female is fertilized, she does not allow herself to be mounted by another male and acquires an aggressive behavior in this situation.
