Penelope purpurascens

Habitat: Found in moist forests and more often in lowlands and on hills.


Food: Fruits of various species, seeds and tender leaves, their diet is supplemented with insects, small vertebrates and invertebrates and pebbles.


Habits: Arboreal, but goes down to the ground to find food. They form family groups of three to six individuals. It builds its nest in the trees with small aligned branches where they lay two or three eggs; the chicks soon leave the nest and are cared for by both parents.


It is interesting that… During the courtship season the male emits vocalizations at dawn and dusk that can be heard at a distance of 500 m
