Meleagris ocellata

Habitat: It is found in lowland and medium forest, they can be seen in places with growing bushes, jungle edges, thickets and savannahs.


Food: It feeds on fruits although it also includes seeds, leaves, bulbs and invertebrates.


Habits: Active during the day and resting in trees at night. Lives in groups forming flocks of females with young males; of young and adult males or of solitary males. Only the dominant male breeds with the females in a flock.


It is interesting that… For courtship purposes, the male emits vocalizations and drumming that it produces on its chest, while the female emits a light cackle.
