Crax rubra

Habitat: It is found in tropical forests and mangroves with abundant vegetation.

Food: Various fruits, tubers, young shoots, crustaceans, snails and sometimes small reptiles and amphibians.

Habits: They spend much of their time on the ground in search of food, but at the slightest sign of danger they fly to seek shelter in the trees. They live in pairs or family groups, the chicks leave the nest a few days after hatching and stay close to their parents.

It is interesting that… If the parents perceive a threat to the chicks, they pretend to be hurt by moaning and flapping their wings to attract the attention of the predator and allow the chick to escape
