Crocodile River

Crocodylus acutus

Habitat: They inhabit rivers, lakes, reservoirs and can also be found in swamps and estuaries. Food: They feed on fish, frogs, turtles, mammals and birds. Juveniles eat more aquatic invertebrates and small fish, while hatchlings hunt insects on land. Habits: It is nocturnal and is inactive during the day. It prefers to be alone, but if it feels threatened it can be aggressive. The crocodile creates burrow systems to take refuge when it is vulnerable to low water levels. Interestingly… The sex of the hatchlings is determined by the temperature at which the eggs are incubated. High temperatures of 31 to 32.7 degrees Celsius produce males, while temperatures below 31 degrees are females.
