Opossum

Didelphis virginiana

Habitat: Found in a wide variety of habitats, from tropical and subtropical rainforests to farmland and urban areas.


Diet: : Their diet is very varied, they eat insects, small vertebrates, fruits, seeds and sometimes carrion.


Habits: It is terrestrial, arboreal and nocturnal. They make their burrows at ground level among rocks, logs and burrows abandoned by other animals. It is generally solitary and when it is surprised by a predator it pretends to be dead.

​ It is interesting that… The opossum is a marsupial, one of the characteristics of these mammals is the marsupium or bag that females have in the womb, where the embryo ends its development attached to one of the her numerous breasts.
