Pijije Duck

Dendrocygna autumnalis

Habitat: They are found near coastal lagoons, riverbanks, mangroves, wetland areas, natural and artificial lakes, savannah and farmland.

Food: They feed on young shoots, grains, seeds, fruits and supplement their diet with insects and crustaceans.

Habits: They live in groups forming flocks. They are characterized by whistling during flight. They generally nest in tall trees and lay twelve to sixteen eggs, although some females lay their eggs in nests that are not theirs, including those of other species. They are slow fliers but good swimmers.

It is interesting that… The female and the male participate in the incubation, with the male remaining the longest in the nest.
