Tapirus bairdii
Habitat: Found in tropical forests, cloudy mountain forests, and wetlands.
Diet: It is herbivorous, feeding on leaves, tender shoots, flowers and plant bark.
Habits: It is terrestrial and aquatic. They use bodies of water as shelter and rest, they are very good swimmers, on land they use a network of trails that help them move through the vegetation. They are solitary, but during the breeding season, small groups can be seen.
It is interesting that… They communicate with each other through very high-pitched vocalizations, similar to whistles.
