Habitat: Lives in thickets, dry forests, cities, tropical areas, savannah and agricultural areas.


Feeding: Mainly wild fruits, seeds and grains, but occasionally it eats young shoots and insects on the ground.


Habits: It is diurnal habits. It is migratory, breeding in the United States during the summer and wintering in Mexico and Central America. It usually has the same partner year after year. Once the male has established his nesting territory, he aggressively defends it from other males. Both parents incubate the eggs.


It is interesting that… During the first four days of life the parents feed their chicks with “crop milk” which is a secretion produced by the glands of the crop and that contains proteins and fats that is chemically similar to the milk of mammals
